A Journey Back to God’s Call

I still remember the first time I said, “God, send me.”I was about eight or nine years old when my Sunday school teacher introduced us to a character who, to my young eyes, seemed a little unusual—yet undeniably fearless, full of love for people, and marked by courage. He was guided by an unshakable faith: the missionary.
That day, we built airplanes out of toilet paper rolls to represent the planes that would carry us to different parts of the world to fulfill God’s will. Sitting there in Sunday school, I closed my eyes and whispered a prayer that would quietly shape my life: “God, send me.”
As we grow older, we begin to understand why Jesus calls us to be like children. In a child’s mind, nothing is impossible. Their faith is pure, genuine, joyful, loving—and above all, innocent. But as we grow, the turbulent waters we call life often try to silence the dream God once placed in our hearts. Daily responsibilities pull us in every direction, causing our minds to lose focus and our hearts to grow weary.
Yet God is patient. He is gentle. While we try to forget our calling, He remains—softly knocking on the door of our hearts. With love and tenderness, He waits for us to respond.
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” —Revelation 3:20

I opened that door once again when I boarded a plane headed to Haiti. In the midst of warm embraces, motorcycle rides, songs, toys, clothing, and shared meals, God spoke to me and reminded me of a truth I had almost forgotten:
“Perhaps this is the moment for which you were created.”—Esther 4:14

The nights in Haiti are breathtaking. The sky is filled with thousands of stars, shining with incredible clarity. No two stars shine the same; each one is distinct, each one unique. In the same way, God has placed a unique and sacred dream within every life.
My prayer is that God’s dream would consume us—and that we would be brave enough to pursue it. May His dream burn like an unquenchable flame in our hearts, one that never fades or goes out.
“The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out.” —Leviticus 6:12

Beautifully written direct to the heart.
